22Apr11 Day 3 Chitwan National Park

Chitwan - Part 2

1st rhino sighting while on the river cruise.Elephant ride . We would have our turn later in the day.

Salt Lick

Huge Termite Mound. Bishnu our Safari resort guide explained the column of hot air rising in the aboveground mounds helps drive air circulation currents inside the subterranean network. The structure of these mounds can be quite complex. The temperature control is essential for those species that cultivate fungal gardens and even for those that don't. The termites grow and feed on their own food inside their palace.

Chilling out..with elephants.

An elephant named “Devi Kali” from the Breeding Center in Chitwan National Park, gave birth to twin baby elephants on November 6th, 2008. This is the first time that an elephant has given birth to twins in Nepal.
The babies are named “Ram Gaj”
and “Laxman Gaj” after two hindu brother gods. The twin elephants are extremely rare - the only living twins to both survive and only the third elephant twins born in the world (recorded).

2nd Rhino sighting. Mother with a baby.
